Get the Fog Out

Overview

You’ve crash landed on a hostile alien planet. Your only goal: GET THE FOG OUT.

In Get the Fog Out, you, the player, ran into some misfortune on your space travels and crash landed on a desolate planet covered in a thick, ominous fog. With help from Nexy, your ship’s emergency Nexus Drone, you fight your way through the fog, soon discovering that it isn’t as docile as you first thought.

Development

Get the Fog Out was developed in Unity by Under Ctrl, a team of third-year students from Swinburne University. It takes inspiration from real-time strategy games and base builders.

As one of Under Ctrl’s programmers, I implemented, debugged, and optimised the fog, tutorial, and dialogue systems, iterated the tutorial’s design alongside our team’s producer and creative director, and ran playtests with classmates to gather constructive feedback to inform our design decisions. For my contributions, I earned High Distinctions in both Games & Interactivity Project units Get the Fog Out was developed for. Additionally, I conducted a post-mortem analysis and re-design of my areas of contribution to Get the Fog Out for another unit, Games Programming, for which I earned a High Distinction.

Get the Fog Out was showcased at Swinburne Open Day 2019, Pax Australia 2019, and Swinburne’s Games and Animation End of Year Showcase alongside other games produced by Swinburne games students.
